We had a wonderful day today at the USO Deployment Event at Ft Meade. I even did chicken dance in the rain! (ok so not very well!:))))Comedy Central was in the house with Reno 911 and despite all the rain, everyone had a great and informative day. Having gone through deployments I can tell you that information is key and support is a necessity. I don't think I can ever say this enough but THANK YOU to all who serve or have served in the military. Also a HUGE thank you to the USO!

I know many people are excited that this is a holiday weekend. It is a great time to spend with friends and loved one’s. I am also reminded of the calls I received from staff duty during Andy’s last deployment, the many soldiers, sailors, airman and marines we have met visiting hospitals. I am reminded of Josh and Heather and all they have lost and yet they have gained so much through the ironies of life….

On this holiday weekend…say THANK YOU to our military and their families. The observance of Memorial Day is to remind us of all who lost their lives serving our country.

I am Jan Denise Taylor. I have volunteered to host a benefit for "Homes for Our Troops", www.homesforourtroops.org, a non-partisan 501C3 non-profit organization that builds specially adapted homes for severely injured service members (HFOT).

Specifically, the Cpl Joshua Hoffman project - Cpl Joshua Hoffman, 1st BN 24th Marines of Michigan, who was hit by sniper fire in Iraq in January, 2006 on his 3rd tour of duty and seriously injured.

HFOT has secured a home site & will build a specially adapted home for Cpl Hoffman in the Grand Rapids, MI area.



HFOT is, however, unable to furnish the interior of the home including but not limited to furniture, appliances, household goods & products, etc. As well, HFOT/Michigan has plans to build and/or renovate the homes of two additional Veterans.



This spectacular benefit will take place on Friday, 09/12/08 at 730pm at the Genoa Woods Conference Center, in Brighton MI - one day after 9/11 and during the week that the "Moving Wall" will be hosted here in Brighton.



I urge you to assist with this most important benefit in any way possible.

USO Mother's Day Celebration, Andrews Airforce Base, MD

Today, Andy and I enjoyed a Mothers Day with the USO at Andrew's Airforce Base. The turn out was tremendous and full of cultural treats from around the world. Everyone enjoyed delicious cakes and baked goods from the White House, foreign embassies and the Foreign Joint Services NCO Association (FJSNA). Events included activities for the kids (face painting, crafts and a magic show) and activities for moms, including neck massages, manicures, raffles and gift bags.

After living overseas, Andy and I enjoyed viewing deserts from Germany, Lebanon, Italy, the UK and many more. I was good, I didn't try any but I heard the White House cake was amazing!

On this Mother's Day, I felt blessed to be such a part of an amazing event. My Mom was with me in spirit today and I was surrounded by so much love, I feel confident she was in the room. I do believe in angels.

To my Mother in law, Marcia, my Grandmother Memaw and my sister...you are the Mothers of true inspiration and we love you all. Happy Mother's Day!!!!!

Andy and I really enjoyed emceeing the Miss and Teen DC International Pageant tonight. What accomplished young women!!!!!I am excited for my new "sister queens"!!!! We also were fortunate to spend time with Kristie Barlow, Miss Teen DC International 2007 and her Mother. What a great family. Kristi, you have been such a wonderful representative of DC!!!! Good luck at the University of Alabama!!!

I also was able to spend time with Deborah Wright, who looked amazing as always!!!

Military spouses embody the courage, nobility of duty, and love of
country that inspire every American. On Military Spouse Day, we pay tribute
to the husbands and wives who support their spouses in America's Armed
Forces during times of war and peace.



The legacy of military spouses began when colonial Americans were
fighting for independence. Martha Washington boosted the morale of her
husband's troops by visiting battlefields and tending to the wounded. Since
then, members of our Armed Forces have served our Nation accompanied by the
steadfast love and support of their spouses and families.



While our men and women in uniform are protecting our country's
founding ideals of liberty, democracy, and justice, their spouses live with
uncommon challenges, endure sleepless nights, and spend long periods raising
children alone. Many military spouses are also committed volunteers,
serving other military families and local communities. Our Nation benefits
from the sacrifices of our military families, and we are inspired by their
courage, strength, and leadership.



On Military Spouse Day and throughout the year, we honor the commitment
spouses have made to freedom's cause. To learn about ways to support our
troops and their spouses and families, I encourage all Americans to visit

After a morning of walking 13 miles (yeah!!!!) and a weekend of Nascar in Richmond for Andy, we headed up to Cecil College for the Mrs Maryland and Delaware United States Pageant. There were many visiting queens and of course there can only be one winner (or in this case two!!!)
