Food can be the best medicine!

I am trying to make heart healthy choices that will help my cholesterol. Please note this will not be true when I start cooking for my Super bowl party. :) I went off my cholesterol meds about a year ago because there are some side effects that no one likes to talk about like birth defects and leg cramps. It was a personal choice for me. In some cases, they are very necessary, so please consult your doctor before going off any medications but I just prefer to be off the pills. The HDL, HAPPY Cholesterol, is controlled by exercise. LDL, your LOUSY cholesterol is controlled primarily by making healthy life choices. Food is really about moderation so its ok to eat what you want, within reason, but portions can be a huge downfall. When I lived in Germany I lived on cheese and champagne and was thin but I walked everywhere! Oh how I miss those days sometimes! LOL Today I went for the salad. I like sweet and something with some bite so I like to make my own. Lets not even talk about the calorie content in most of the salads prepared at restaurants.
I like a dressing of just a little olive oil, lemon juice and pepper but the combination of the spinach, blueberries, mozzarella, tomatoes, olives, peppers and cucumbers was quite good.  I went for refreshe water as my bubbly.

Continuing to work on my Simple 7! What are the 7 ways you control your heart health? Take the Life check quiz from the American Heart Association! http://mylifecheck.heart.org/

My next step of the day...exercise!

Here's to your heart!
