Dads and daughters (and more) enjoy the tunes at the inaugural Daddy-Daughter Dance held Saturday at the Bellevue, Md. Community Center, hosted by the Fleet and Family support Center.

A dozen fathers spent Saturday afternoon with their princesses of varying ages at the first annual Daddy⁄Daughter Dance sponsored by the Naval District Washington (NDW) Fleet & Family Support Center (FFSC).
Two of the fathers were accompanied by a pair of daughters, while the other dads came with their one special young lady to the Bellevue Community Center, where the dance was held. NDW Morale, Welfare and Recreation provided food and refreshments.

Each father and daughter was introduced as they entered the center. The daughters were presented with a bouquet of flowers, compliments of the United Service Organizations. The duos danced the day away to a variety of music played by DJ Brandon.

Deanna Linz, who is Mrs. D.C. International 2008, made a special appearance at the dance. She danced with the girls, took photos, signed autographs and allowed the girls to try on her crown and sash.

The times fathers and daughters spend time should be treasured, said Jacqueline J. Hayes, FFSC Family Employment Readiness Program manager, who coordinated the dance with Jess Shaw, FFSC education services facilities.

‘‘It is a special relationship between a father and daughter,” said Hayes. ‘‘Statistics show that girls often marry men that are just like their fathers.”

As she walked hand-in-hand with her father to their car, one daughter said, ‘‘This was the bestest party,” bringing an ear to ear smile from her dad.
